Summer is coming to a close, but there is still some fun left to be had. Here are a few events we think deserve a spot on the calendar:
When: Saturday, August 20th
Where: Coppell square, 768 W. Main Street
I scream, you scream. School may be back in session, but we haven’t said goodbye to the sweet tastes of summer just yet. Join Coppell families for the back to school ice cream social on the square. Ice cream, snow cones, and other treats will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Parents, we recommend bringing cash for vendors. On top of the sugar rush, kids can enjoy face painting and a balloon master. For a free snow cone, bring along extra school supplies for the donation drive.
When: Open every day, through September 18th
Time: Times vary
Where: Grand Gallery, 636 S. Main Street, Grapevine
Cost: $4 per person
Travel back in time to the Mesozoic Era more than 65 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Let your little learners become a dinosaur for a day through this state-of-the-art interactive exhibit in Grapevine. You’ll spend hours digging up fossils, touching life-like (and moving) creations, and participating in multiple video game simulations. Easy controls make this educational experience great for kids of all ages. Their brains will be bursting with information on how dinosaurs found food, defended themselves, and interacted with their herds. An entry fee of under five dollars makes this a colossal steal.
When: Open every day, through September 5th
Time: Times vary
Where: Gaylord Texan, 1501 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine
Tumble down the rabbit hole during SummerFest at the Gaylord Texan. This year’s fest features Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland,” creating a magical world of madness the whole family can enjoy. The Wonderland all-access pass guarantees a Cheshire cat size grin on your little adventurers’ faces. The pass includes a Wonderland 4D adventure, scavenger hunt, a tea party with the Mad Hatter, and a souvenir photo. We talked with her, and the Queen said, it’s off with your heads if you don’t attend.
When: Every Tuesday
Where: Grapevine Craft Brewery, 906 Jean St.
Bored on a Tuesday night? Come exercise your brain muscles at the Grapevine Craft Brewery Taproom for their weekly trivia night. Spend three hours sipping on their most popular brews: Lakefire, Monarch, and Sir William’s while your entertainment, sports, and history knowledge is tested. Food trucks will be parked outside for those who get the munchies. What’s the grand prize? Free beer of course.
When: Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month
Where: 201 S. Main St., Grapevine
Cost: $20 per person
For those who like to swirl, sip, and savor, head over to Messina Hof Winery every first and third Wednesday of the month for chocolate night. Located at the historic Wallis Hotel, you will indulge in a night of locally crafted chocolates paired perfectly with a selection of fine wines. A mid-week date night never sounded so sweet.
